Below are the recipients of the most recent NCSFMA scholarships.
2026 NCSFMA Scholarship Recipients
Katia Ortega Santa Clara University Master’s in Teaching (Teaching Credential Program) Katia Ortega is currently pursuing a Master’s in Teaching at Santa Clara University while working toward her teaching credential. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Adolescent Development from California State University, Sacramento. Katia plans to become a high school biology teacher and is passionate about inspiring students to explore science and think critically about the natural world. Through her work in education, she hopes to create inclusive classroom environments and contribute to improving science education for future generations
Kendra Ortega California State University, Fullerton Bachelor’s Degree in Biology (with plans to double major in Business)
Kendra Ortega is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Biology at California State University, Fullerton and plans to add a second major in Business. Her long-term goal is to become a plastic surgeon and eventually establish clinics in both the United States and Mexico. Kendra is drawn to the field because it combines precision, creativity, and the opportunity to transform lives through reconstructive and cosmetic procedures. Through her education, she hopes to bridge healthcare systems across communities and expand access to specialized medical care.
Noah Youngberg Las Positas College Associate of Science (Mechanical / Automotive Engineering focus)
Noah Youngberg is currently pursuing an Associate of Science degree at Las Positas College, focusing on advanced mathematics, mechanical engineering, and technology coursework. His long-term goal is to work as an engineer in professional racing series such as NASCAR, Formula 1, INDYCAR, or the World Endurance Championship. Noah plans to transfer to a top university for automotive or mechanical engineering and hopes to gain hands-on experience through internships at Bay Area racing venues such as Sonoma Raceway and Laguna Seca.
Sophia Youngberg Arizona State University Business Law
Sophia Youngberg is a senior at Arizona State University majoring in Business Law and plans to attend law school to pursue a career in sports law. A lifelong softball player, Sophia developed a strong appreciation for teamwork, discipline, and perseverance through athletics. She hopes to combine her passion for sports with her commitment to advocacy by representing athletes and sports organizations. While completing her degree, Sophia has balanced academics with working two jobs and is committed to continuing her education as a first-generation law student.
